Aqua One Precision Air Pump

The Aqua One Precision Air Pump range has become something of a legend in the aquarium hobby, time-proven, reliable and trusted by fishkeepers for years. Available in outputs from 60 to 800 litres of air per hour, the Precision range covers the needs of most aquarium setups, from small desktop tanks through to large community aquariums. Suitable for coldwater, tropical and marine aquariums.

Why Does My Aquarium Need an Air Pump?

Air pumps do more than just create bubbles. By increasing water movement and surface agitation, they improve gas exchange, pushing oxygen into the water and releasing carbon dioxide. This increased flow also helps eliminate localised build-up of toxic compounds such as ammonia and nitrite, improves the performance of your biological filtration, and ensures a healthier, more stable environment for your fish. Particularly important in warmer months when dissolved oxygen levels in water naturally drop.

Which Model Do I Need?

As a general guide, match the air pump output to your tank size and what you’re running from it. A single air stone in a small tank is well served by the Precision 1500 or 2500. If you’re running multiple air stones, a sponge filter and a protein skimmer simultaneously, step up to the twin or four-outlet models. Not sure? Get in touch and we’ll help you choose.

Maintenance Tips

  • Replace your airstone every 6 months or when it shows signs of deterioration. A clogged airstone reduces output and puts unnecessary strain on the pump.
  • If your pump becomes noisy or the flow rate drops noticeably, this is usually a sign that the diaphragm assembly needs replacing, an easy and inexpensive fix using the spare parts listed above.
  • Always unplug the pump before removing the cover for any maintenance or diaphragm replacement.

⚠️ Heads-up: Always ensure your air pump is positioned above the water line, or fit a check valve on the airline tubing. If power is lost, water can siphon back through the airline and damage the pump or cause a flood.
