API Nitrate Test Kit
Accurate Nitrate Testing for Freshwater & Saltwater Aquariums
The biggest issue we see in our ponds and aquariums is the seemingly sudden build up of ammonia in the water. Testing nitrates, nitrites and ammonia is the first step to trouble shooting why your fish are acting differently.
API Nitrate Test Kit helps you monitor nitrate levels in your aquarium, ensuring a healthy environment for fish and invertebrates. Elevated nitrates indicate a buildup of fish waste and organic compounds, which can reduce water quality and encourage unwanted algae growth. Regular testing allows you to maintain low nitrate levels and improve overall tank health.
How It Works
- Measures nitrate levels from 0 to 160 ppm with precise, reliable results.
- Suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
- Provides a quick and easy colour comparison with the included chart for accurate readings.
- Helps detect potential water quality issues before they impact fish health.
Directions for Use
- Follow the included instructions to fill the test tube with aquarium water.
- Add the recommended reagents and shake or mix as instructed.
- Compare the resulting colour to the calibrated colour chart to determine nitrate levels.
- Use the results to guide water changes, filtration, and other maintenance actions.
Nitrate Guidance
- Source: Nitrates are produced from nitrite oxidation during the nitrogen cycle and can accumulate from decaying plants, fish waste, overfeeding, and tap water.
- Safe Levels: Keep nitrate levels below 50 ppm in freshwater, ideally under 25 ppm. For breeding fish or algae control, aim for below 10 ppm.
- Reduction Tips: Maintain a clean aquarium, avoid overfeeding, perform regular water changes with nitrate-free water, and consider live plants or nitrate-lowering media.
