Medicated Salt

Salt is one of those tricks of the trade that all pond and aquarium keepers should know… salt is a natural tonic that helps with stress, gill function, electroylte balance and naturally treats/prevents parasites, diseases and wounds. We always recommend dosing your pond with salt, particually during times of stress such as when new fish have been added, after handling, big water changes, etc. And as a first step when attempting to treat wounds and diseases.

This salt is further infused with natural tea tree oil and plant-based polymers, giving your fish and pond an extra layer of protection. Together, these ingredients help reduce stress, defend against parasites and infections, and accelerate the healing of superficial wounds, scrapes, and abrasions. This makes it an excellent choice for routine pond health management or for use during recovery periods.

Dosage & Usage

We recommend maintaining pond salt levels between 0.1%–0.2% for general fish health. This can be easily checked using an electronic salt meter (readily available online), or by bringing us a water sample for free testing. If you are not local to our store, most aquarium shops can also test your water for salt levels.

If your fish are stressed or showing signs of disease (such as loss of appetite, listlessness, scraping against walls, fungus, or parasites), salt levels can be safely raised slightly above the normal range to provide extra support.

Dosage Guide: Add 1kg of salt per 1000L of pond water to raise salt levels by 0.1%.

Quick Pond Volume Calculator

To work out the approximate volume of your pond in litres, use this formula:

Pond Volume (L) = Length (m) × Width (m) × Water Depth (m) x 1000

Example: A pond measuring 2m long × 1.5m wide × 0.5m deep = 1500L.

We stock loads of pond treatments, conditioners, and medications – everything you need to keep your pond crystal clear and your fish in top condition.

⚠️ Heads-up: Always monitor your pond water quality when dosing with salt or any treatment. Overdosing can cause stress to fish and plants.
