The PondMAX Automatic UV pressure filter 50000 is designed for large ponds. We recommend it for ponds up to 20,000 litres (fully shaded with no fish). Or up to 10,000 litres if you are housing fish.

This automatic pressure filter contains mechanical, biological and UV filtration components. Sponges and biomedia inside the canister catch suspended debris. A UV compartment housing an ultraviolet globe will keep your water clear and prevent algae blooms from turning your water green.

Cleaning indicator an inbuilt buoy indicates when the filter requires cleaning by floating to the surface when the filter has collected too much muck

Automatic backwash in order to clean the filter, turn the blue backwash switch to the ‘clean’ position. The filter will automatically reverse its flow and push dirty water and built-up debris out of a secondary backwash outlet. You can direct this water into a drain or garden bed to dispose!

UV filtration an inbuilt 55W ultraviolet globe kills harmful bacteria and suspended algae, no more green water! This globe should be replaced every 12 months. An indicator light will show if the glboe is switched on (note that after 12 months the globe still may be ‘on’ but the wavelengths put out are no longer sterilising the water)

timing switch an inbuilt timer allows you to set how long you want your UV light to be on. In Australia, we recommend having your UV light on 24/7 all year round.

installation and pump recommendation

This is an external canister filter, it will sit outside your pond somewhere in your garden, plant room, etc. It will connect to your pond via two lengths of 50mm hose and will need to run alongside a properly sized pond pump. The maximum flow rate of this filter (i.e the strongest amount of flow it can handle) is 18,000 litres per hour. We reccomend running all filters at their maximum flow in order to optimise performance.

For this filter, we would recommend running alongside the OASE Aquamax 17500 if there is little to no head height.

‘Head height’ refers to the height water needs to be pushed from the surface of the pond into a filter or waterfall before it is returned to the pond. E.g if the water flows from the pond, 1m high into the filter and then a further 1m into a waterfall, the total head height would be 2m. Pond pumps will decrease in flow rate as they have to push water upwards, so where there is signficant head height we will need to upsize the pump.
