Gravity pond filters are designed to sit above a fish pond connected to a submersible pond pump within the pond/pond skimmer. This pump sends water up to the filter system and eventually returns it via the action of gravity.
Most of these filters will require biological filtration media to properly function. This media most commonly comes in the form of bio balls and Japanese matting, which utilize fine particle openings and the growth of beneficial bacteria to filter debris and harmful pollutants from the water.
Due to their larger size, these pond filters are suited to medium – large sized ponds (usually over 3000 liters). Their size also comes with the benefit of less frequent cleaning and maintenance.
At The Fish Works, we stock two brands of gravity filters, Aquascape and Oase. Both Aquascape and Oase design high-quality American/German products. If you want to hide your gravity filter within a waterfall construction, Aquascape products are best suited to this. Whereas the OASE range is a bit more visible.
